Sound, XPS m1330 and Ubuntu 8.04

May 8, 2008 · Posted in Computer

In this previous post, I mentioned that everything was working correctly after upgrading to Ubuntu 8.04.  Unfortunately, after I wrote that post my audio stopped working.

I went through several steps to get audio back, including building and installing the latest version of alsa.

I found that if I put the following line in my /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base file, everthing works

options snd-hda-intel model=dell-3stack

    Hi Paul,

I did a clean install of Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit on an XPS M1330 with 2gb ram and a nvidia video card.

The audio is not working on mine. I added the line you suggested:
    options snd-hda-intel model=dell-3stack

at the file of the file (/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base) and re-started.

Should I have deleted or modified anything else in that file?

    Thanks

That was all that I needed to do to get sound work. But, I did an upgrade from 7.10 and not a clean install. I am not sure what the difference would be.

Worked Great!! Remember people you need to adjust the PCM and FRONT audio settings after you apply this fix. and voila loud sound!!
