XM Satellite reception

While driving around today, I noticed that reception on our XM radio was pretty spotty.  I just saw this post that mentions that one of XM's satellites is not working correctly, and their repeaters having problems.

Update: It looks like the problem has been solved. Here is an email I received from XM:

XM Radio Resumes Normal Levels of Service XM Satellite Radio has resumed normal levels of service for customers who experienced outages or significantly degraded service starting yesterday. The problem occurred during the loading of software to a critical component of the satellite broadcast system, which resulted in a temporary loss of signal from one of the company’s satellites. After you turn on your XM radio, please allow five to ten minutes to reacquire the XM signal. XM apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused.

One True Media and TiVo

I just tried the One True Media service.  One True Media lets you create and share videos from your photos or videos.  You can then share these videos in several ways:

  • html code to embed flash player on various sites
  • Share via email
  • Create a link to the video hosted on One True Media site
  • Send to a mobile phone
  • Share to a TiVo Channel

The last one is what I am interested in.  We have been sharing our videos with our family by either burning them on DVD or posting a copy on the web.  Sending the video to family members who have TiVo DVRs is a great way to share family videos.

Universcale is a cool web app.  It lets you compare the size of various things from the Universe, galaxies, major monuments, and various animals.

You could spend a lot of time playing with this app.

Ideas for Twitter

I am still not sure that I will really use Twitter in the end.  The problem that I have is it is not really part of my daily routine.  I hardly have time to respond to emails, so spending time on something this trivial.

Automated systems are perfect candidates for using Twitter.  This post describes using Twitter for notifications from a home automation system. I think that this is a pefect use of Twitter.  Here are some other ideas:

  • Auto telematics systems to send notifications of car diagnostic status
  • Navigation systems, to send position information (Including urls on Google Maps)
  • Public transit systems to sent status notifications

"Dangers" of Coca-Cola

Since my body has forced me to stop drinking soda, the information on this page doesn't bother me that much.  But I never realized the affects of cola on the body.  But drinking soda, is probably the reason that I can't do it any more.
