Multi-channel MP3 files

Fraunhoffer ISS, Thomson, and Agere Systems, has announced a new mp3 format that supports 5.1 channels of audio. Supposedly the files are not significantly larger than regular mp3.

I wonder what the format the decoder outputs for these files. Is it 5 channel PCM, or is it Dolby Digital or DTS? Supposedly these streams can be output though a S/PDIF connection. Normally receivers can only handle DTS or Dolby Digital for multi channel streams
